Stability

Thoughts on our current social contract.

Published by Santiago Sánchez-Cordero in Politics Share

In order for society to remain stable we must keep the plutocrats happy. We must allow that they destroy the planet, that they carry on waging their wars, building their climate-incinerating data centers. We must give them control over our health and data and make sure we rent ourselves to them for the cheapest price imaginable. We must never organize our labor and our struggle; instead we should be content with negligible participation in their “independent media.” We must consign ourselves to privatized concentration camps so that the private contractors who built such prisons may benefit from the taxpayer’s imprisonment. We must relinquish the fact that the public has the capacity of recognizing and indeed solving its own problems. Instead, we should trust the stewardship of arms dealers, social media execs whose brains melt in real time, drunks, rapists, fraudsters. Sex traffickers must decide the rules of immigration and filter asylum seekers based on their values. The homeless must remain homeless. Indigenous land must be handed over to corporations in order to create meaningless jobs for the working class and bonuses for CEOs. Art and culture are incompatible with the values of the plutocracy; instead one can pay a monthly subscription for AI slop, generic remakes, and a ceaseless stream of advertisement so that our sentience is just a mere flicker between commercials.

What’s important is to keep their rent profits flowing in order for the body politic to remain in homeostasis — this is the one key condition. God forbid a habitable world; instead the whole planet is expected to undergo the construction of their private bunkers as something of a global project mobilizing the entire calorific output of humanity.

If this fate is not acceptable to us, then society destabilizes. Military coups for countries that seek their own alternative forms of government, ICE raids for communities that refuse to fall in line, RCMP assaults for Indigenous people who defend their unceded and ancestral territories. French students asking for teachers get militarized riot police instead. Human rights organizations and officials are branded as terrorists so that the rules-based order and the economy of genocide is respected and upheld. We must learn what it means to be civil and obedient, to say what they want us to say, lower our heads, and accept their rule of law. We must acknowledge we are nothing but statistics of behavioral data, non-player characters, pluses and minuses in the matrix of their stocks. We are devoid of dreams and aspirations, culture and heritage, history and the longing for a decent future. Animals, forests, seas, the polar ice caps — nothing is real save the numbers. THE NUMBERS ARE THE UNIVERSE. Everything must remain under their control now, always and forever until we choke with the ashes of our own world.

Or else.
